Susan graduated from Osgoode Law School in 2006 and was the winner of the Albert Weisbrot prize for Advanced Family Law. She articled with Karen Thompson and was called to the bar in October 2008. Her background in sociology and gender studies informs her humanistic approach to family law and gives her great insight into the underlying issues that make separation and divorce so difficult for modern families.
Susan’s practise of family law is mainly devoted to assisting clients in negotiating effective Separation Agreement or advocating for her clients in court. She has dealt with every issue imaginable at court, from complex financial issues of property and support to high conflict custody and access disputes involving alienation. Susan brings the skills developed in mediation training with Barbara Landau and in collaborative practise to the table when settling cases to avoid expensive court litigation whenever possible, while remaining a strong advocate for each and every client. Susan has appeared at the Ontario Courts of Justice, the Unified Family Court and the Superior Court of Justice. She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association, the Halton County Law Association and the Hamilton Law Association.
Susan is dedicated to ensuring that her clients receive respectful, reasonable representation in a timely and cost effective manner. It is very important to Susan that clients understand their options and make pragmatic decisions to ensure the best outcome from difficult situations.
Susan is an active member of the Oakville community, volunteering with Scouts and Guides, and various community events. When not working, raising her children or volunteering, she can be found in her gardens or the kitchen.
